We arrived in Myanmar without a lot of expectations. We didn’t read a lot as we wanted to get an own, genuine picture. We just saw a couple of great pictures of hot air balloons over Bagan. Now, after we spent 12 days in Myanmar we can tell – Myanmar is so much more than that. Watching sunrises on mountains, trying to communicate with lovely locals and chasing the balloons in Bagan. Taking the train in Sri Lanka – Traveling with locals
Having traveled in some Asian countries one of our highlights so far was taking the train in Sri Lanka. For people who do not travel regularly with it, it is far more than a cheap option to travel from one place to the other but it is joining Sri Lanka’s society. Besides trying all varieties of fresh fruit and deep-fried snacks you have a stunning view on Sri Lanka’s coastline or its even more impressive highlands. First, we were unsure whether the train is the best way of transport for us, as we have heard many stories of overcrowded trains and insecure journeys. In our case, we did not experience anything similar.

The country of Maya ruins, Mezcal and spicy Tacos is incredible. We ate delicious tacos stuffed with fresh avocado, surfed the waves in Puerto Escondido and explored the country with its spanish-speaking, indigenous inhabitants while Backpacking in Mexico.

Once you have arrived in Asia, you will see a lot (!) of Tuk Tuk’s. Also in Sri Lanka, the three-wheeled taxis are commonly used and you will see and hear them everywhere. As soon as you step out of the airport, you stroll through markets or you just try to cross the street, locals will try to pick you up by inviting you with a (sometimes friendly) “Tuk Tuk?” or “transport?”.
